How Can You Help?

Here are the top ways you can help advocate for public education:

Be Informed

For an overall understanding of why we fight for public education, read this series on school privatization read this series from the Washington Post. You can also learn more about school privatization in general with this helpful toolkit from the national Network for Public Education.

Like and Follow ICPE on social media. We share the latest education news from Indiana on our Facebook page. Follow us so that you receive a notification when we post, especially during the Indiana legislative session from January through April or May, regarding important calls to action.

Speak Up

Tag legislators on social media.

E-mail or send postcards your legislators. Look up your legislators here.

Call your legislators. First, you can look up your state legislators here. Then, call (800) 382-9842 for the Indiana House or (800) 382-9467 for the Indiana Senate and ask for your representative. It only takes five minutes, and you get to talk with a human and leave a message with your legislator’s staff person. Please be clear, direct and polite.

Write letters to the editor. Many Indiana citizens don’t know about how school privatization is hurting every community, whether urban or rural.

Lobby your legislator at the Statehouse during the legislative session. Any citizen can do this! We can show you how. If you want to get involved in person at the statehouse, email us.

Testify at a committee meeting. Any citizen can do this! We can walk you through the most effective ways to do this. Email us if you are interested in testifying. Legislators pay attention to their constituents who come to the statehouse.

Share Info

Talk about public education with your friends and neighbors. Many people have no awareness about efforts to privatize public education via vouchers, charters, and innovation schools.

Share social media posts to help spread the word. Every comment, like, and share helps reach a broader audience.

Invite your friends to like our Facebook page. Help our advocacy reach more people.

Host an ICPE speaker at your community event or host your own house party event with your friends and neighbors.  Email us for more info.

Vote Wisely

Elect legislators who understand the threats facing public education and who will fully support public education.
